About the Role

As an intern at Openwater you will work with our team as we look to advance healthcare through the open-source applications of both ultrasound and laser technologies. You will be able to apply your studies to real world problems, with the potential to positively impact the lives of thousands. Those who complete an internship at Openwater will increase their knowledge of the rapidly growing fields of biotechnology and medical device development through hands-on experience. You will also join the growing community of open-source and open-knowledge development.

Role Specifics: This particular position will be focused on performing and presenting market research for potential applications of our developing technology. This individual will also provide technical writing support in the form of process documentation and public facing spotlights highlighting our technology developments.


  • 15-40 hours per week (negotiable)

  • Work with our engineers to deeply understand our in-development products

  • Provide technical writing support for process documentation & public facing updates

  • Research potential clinical applications and gather data to assess their fit with Openwater’s platform technology

  • Evaluate the size of potential clinical and commercial impact for the most promising applications

  • Summarize and present findings to Openwater technical leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to work onsite at our San Francisco office

  • Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED

  • Over the age of 18 and authorized to work in the US

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong technical mindset

  • Currently pursuing a degree in a relevant field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong desire and willingness to learn in a lean work environment

  • Comfortable working through ambiguity

  • Experience working at a small start up

  • Prior experience with technical writing

Pay Transparency: $30 to $40 per hour
